Top business news of the week or “As if a career in CCM isn’t enough…”

Michael W. Smith has been named President of AIG Executive Liability, reporting to John Q. Doyle, Executive Vice President of the AIG Property Casualty Group and President of AIG Commercial Insurance Group. Mr. Smith was formerly President of AIG Financial Lines Claims. He joined AIG in 1996 as Division Counsel in AIG Executive Liability’s Professional Liability Division. He subsequently served as Executive Vice President and Chief Underwriting Officer before being promoted to President of the Professional Liability Division. Mr. Smith was also an attorney in private practice in Atlanta, Georgia. He is a graduate of the University of West Florida and holds a JD degree with Honors from the University of Florida College of Law. Little known in the business world, however, is the fact that Michael W. Smith, concurrently to his career in insurance has maintained a rather successful career in the contemporary Christian music industry writing such hits as “Go West Young Man,” “Cross of Gold,” and “Friends.”
